President Joe Biden, who showed throughout the three ½ years as President that he decides things slowly, has decided one month away from the Democratic Presidential nominating Convention that he is not the best candidate to beat Donald Trump. Apparently, the most important item on the Democratic Party is to defeat Donald Trump. Not only is it the most important, but it is also the only one that matters.
But Joe Biden did not leave the campaign trail without naming a successor. This is unheard of in a democracy. Naming a successor is not unheard of, but the unquestioning acceptance by the media and a large segment of the population certainly feels very undemocratic. Biden’s spokespeople have amplified this feeling over the last year.
Over the past year I have heard and read Biden’s supporters telling the American public, especially those of us that also dislike Trump, but did not want Biden to run again. As the primary season rolled on, our doubts about Biden’s mental agility grew. His speech and his gait slowed noticeably over the past year. His public appearances never increased from the COVID-19 risks imposed when he ran in 2020. But it was the slow policy walk that most importantly was the telltale sign.
Joe Biden cannot juggle subjects without long rest breaks. It took him two years to give indebted college students forgiveness of their loans. And he approached nothing about future students! A plain indication that while juggling this issue, he broke some eggs he juggled.
Recognizing that the Supreme Court could be problematic, he appointed a committee to come up with solutions. They supplied some ideas. Joe Biden was too slow to recognize the possibility that no action would be catastrophic.
This is just a small sample of having a president who leads only by the words of his supporters. He failed totally to rein in Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema letting them drive legislation – the lowest common denominator. Again, his supporters went out and celebrated the bills that passed after 90% of it was gutted. His reaction to inflation was to hand over the driving wheel to the Fed. The result, increased interest rates; also known as a direct wealth transfer to money lenders. He missed taking strong action on any of the two primary drivers of inflation. Corporate profit gouging and supply chain disruption.
While there is still more that has been slow walked or ignored, the previous paragraph is a major reason the US economy is so strong on paper, but not considered strong by the electorate who are seeing their credit card payments increase and their savings shrink.
Joe did not start any wars–Hooray Joe. Only he refused to even talk to Russia, pushing them to invade Ukraine to demonstrate their dissatisfaction over NATO’s aggressive posture. Then when Hamas attacked Israel, Biden jumped in and gave Israel billions of dollars in coupons to purchase American high tech, high kill potential weapons. Like the deal he offered to Ukraine. The manufacturing of all these weapons, have “helped” the US economy on paper as well.
In both nations, the organization that monitors genocides has declared three active Genocide emergencies in Ukraine, Gaza, and Israel.
Kamala Harris has participated in none of these issues I have noted. Her ignorance gives her plausible deniability on every one of them and more. She has been active in the immigrant issue, and all Americans applaud her advice to fleeing families from Central American countries being brutalized by right wing governments and dramatic Climate Disruption that will only get more dire. Worse. She told them to “Go Home”. Just like Biden, her policy on immigration is the same as Trump’s only with less harsh adjectives.
Harris may beat Trump in the election, and that is why so many Democrats are so very pleased to have her in the race. The Vice President will show up at campaign events echoing the Biden plan of slow walking and bending the knee for corporate interests. Inattention to detail results in her failing to understand legislation like how she messed up the definition of Medicare 4 All during the 2020 Primaries. She has never put together a vision of what America should strive for. She is the perfect Democrat.
In Joe Biden’s entire career, he was never a visionary pushing aspirational policy. Kamala Harris is a younger female version of Biden, only she has more identities–an important value for Democrats.
So, if you are sold on Joe Biden and already mourn his political demise, Kamala is your lady.
If you want an American President who will allow companies to not allow Union workers break times, will declare Climate Disruption a Global Emergency and Homelessness a National Emergency, will reject war and do everything to stop and prevent all war; then vote for that person and others from your senators down to the School Committee.
Recognize that such a platform is at risk of losing to Trump, but after Biden, what is the difference?
